Buried Deep in my Heart

Ireland went from being one of Europe’s poorest countries to one of its richest in less than a decade. It enjoyed a huge boom lasting for 10 years. But it’s now over and emigration, set deep in the nation’s psyche, has once again returned, both to its cities and its villages. But what was Ireland like to live in during the decades leading up to the ‘Celtic Tiger'?

Buried Deep in my Heart is a coming of age story that captures my childhood growing up on a farm in Derrykinlough, a rural village on the Sligo/Mayo border in the Irish Republic during the 1970s and early 80s. It is an account that captures the landscape of the story through my own journey of self-discovery while encapsulating the hopes and ideals reminiscent of the time.

You will read and feel the happiness, love and excitement of my younger years, along with the layers of wit and idiosyncrasies that make up the Irish psyche.
